A Quiet Week on the Water as Autumn Takes Hold in Cibola

BLUEWATER LAKE, N.M. – The muskie are still lurking, but action has been rated SLOW.

The most recent report from the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish came in on October 2, with anglers noting slow fishing for tiger muskie using chartreuse spinnerbaits. While the bite hasn’t been hot, the presence of giants in the lake keeps spirits high for those casting from shore or boat.

As the season shifts, so do the park’s conditions.

Boating remains EXCELLENT, with surface levels still supporting recreational use. The lake's elevation continues its gradual decline, reaching 4,838 acre-feet as of October 10, according to U.S. Geological Survey data.

Visitors to Bluewater Lake State Park are reminded that Stage II fire restrictions have ended, and no closures are currently in effect. Regular park rules remain in place: fireworks are always prohibited, wood gathering is not allowed, and OHVs are banned within park boundaries. For full details on park hours, amenities, or reservations, visit the Bluewater Lake State Park webpage or call 505-8762391. Grants Riverwalk Pond

No catches were reported this week from the Riverwalk Pond, and there has been no recent stocking. As temperatures continue to dip, fall fishing conditions may bring renewed activity.
