LAGUNA/ACOMA, N.M. - L-A girls basketball head coach Jolynn Martinez (L) was named the prestigious Coach of the Year for district 1 2A girls’ basketball.
Martinez was very flattered to receive the award. Standing next to her is Alamo Navajo girls head coach Randy Hunt who happens to be Coach Martinez’s grandfather.
Coach Hunt, affectionately known by friends, family and the L-A community as “Bumbie” coached for many years at Laguna-Acoma High School and was head coach when they were the runner up in 2011 at the 2A state girls basketball championship at The Pit. Hunt most recently was named 2026 district Coach of the Year for district 3 1A. Martinez acknowledges that Coach Hunt was an inspiration for her and guidance as a coach.
Coach Hunt has a 15-10, 6-0 record this year with his team and has earned a 13 seed to the Nusenda state girls basketball tournament and will travel to Fort Sumner/ House this Friday in the first round of the state basketball tournament.
