GRANTS, N.M. - The Grants High School Pirates track team hosted the district meet this past weekend.
Top placers for the Lady Pirates were Kiara Romero 1st in the 1600 meter run with a time of 6:06.82 and first in the 3200 meters with a time of 13:30.52 Laila Martinez, 2nd place in the 400 meters with a time of 59.93.
Alyssia Newberry 2nd in the 800 meters with a time of 2:33.34. Kyler Atencio, 3rd in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:10.57.
First in the girls sprint medley relay with a time of 4:28.02. First in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 11:02.24. Second in the girls 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:20.82 Alyssa Hobbs 1st in the triple jump with a jump of 33-4 and also a 3rd in the girls long jump, 15-8.5.
For the GHS boys track team, Brayton Cumper placed 3rd in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.07. Nathaniel Saltclah placed 2nd in the 3200 meters with a time of 10:48.79. Matthew Vigil 2nd in the boys 110 meters with a time of 20.41.
In the 4x200 meter relay the GHS boys placed 2nd with a time of 1:38.46. In the boys sprint medley relay they placed 2nd with a time of 4:06.43. They also placed 2nd in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 9:07.50.
In the 4x100 meter relay the boys team placed 3rd with a time of 47.35.
Cardenio Chavez, a senior, placed 1st in the high jump with a hump of 6-4 and 1st in the long jump with a jump of 2010. Raydan-Ray James placed 3rd in the long jump with a jump of 206.75.
Those that made the state track meet will compete next weekend at the state track meet in Albuquerque.
