GHS Track Competes at Cherry and Silver Meet

The Grants High School track team made some tracks this past weekend at the Cherry and Silver indoor meet hosted by the University of New Mexico which was held at the indoor facility at the Albuquerque Convention Center this past weekend.

GHS head track coach Jesse Gamboa took promising students to the meet.

“There is a lot of talent at GHS and we are looking to take the best GHS has to offer to districts,” said Gamboa.

“We are looking forward to this track season.”

Notables for the Pirates are John Paul Miller, a senior, who is on pace to make his 4th state appearance in the 800 meters and 1600 meters.

Savanna Ortiz who placed 3rd in shot put as districts last season is “stronger” this year according to Coach Gamboa. Allison Hobbs and Jenna Gurule plan to be competitive in their respective events.

Gamboa summarized the upcoming track season by stating, “The boys and girls teams look young and scrappy.”

Attending the track meet were Cole Cash, Caleb Gomboa, Jenna Gurule, William Hobbs, Allison Hobbs, John Paul Miller, Alyssa Newberry, Savanna Ortiz and Marli Prendergrass.
