The Laguna-Acoma Hawks boys cross country team placed third at the state cross country meet this past Saturday with a combined score of 101.
In addition to Tagoya Pedro, who placed first, teammate Carter Patrico placed 11th with a time of 17:30.0; Xavier Lorenzo, placed 22nd with a time of 18:40.6; Demarcus Davis placed 23rd with a time of 18:06.9; Sheldon Cheromiah placed 44th with a time of 18:50.7; Demeko Annala placed 79th with a time of 19:58.7; and Curtis Paytiamo placed 101st with a time of 20:37.0.

The L-A cross country girls tame placed 4th in 2A with a total of 113 points.
Rayann Concho placed second with a time of 19:41.2, Mia Smith placed third with a time of 20:29.2; Justina Brown placed 19th with a time of 22:17.5; Aleesia Cheromiah placed 40th with a time of 24:16.8; Layla Patrico was 54th with a time of 34:35.5; and Jazmyne Carillo was 70th with a time of 26:10.1.
Lacey Natseway is the L-A boys and girls cross country coach and is assisted by Mario Mendoza.
The Laguna-Acoma runners made a hand sign of the heart as they crossed the finish line in a tribute to longtime L-A cross country coach, Daniel Otero who passed away recently. Otero won numerous state championships at L-A and fielded outstanding cross-country teams for many years.
He will be missed by the Laguna-Acoma community.
