GRANTS, N.M. “My thoughts remain unchanged,” said Lady Hawks girls basketball head coach Jolynn Martinez as she was thinking out loud a few days ago about the upcoming game against Clayton in the second round of the 2A Nusenda state girls’ basketball tournament. “We must emerge twice as formidable as we have been– our record does not define a team.”
The Hawks answered the call defeating Clayton 47-28.
The Lady Hawks are truly emerging as a formidable 2A basketball force this season and after going undefeated in districts and clinching the district championship they now await the winner of the number 1 seed Mesa Vista and the 9th seed Jal to see who they play Thursday.
Coach Martinez is preparing her team for that game “One game at a time, one quarter at a time and one possession at a time.”
The game is slated for 9:45 Wednesday at the Rio Rancho Events Center.
