The Lady Hawks are flying high with three wins last week allowing them to extend their winning streak to the magical 10 in a row.
Lady Hawk head coach Jolynn Martinez said of their recent success, “As I’ve mentioned before, we always bring our energy to the court.” They sure have brought their energy to the court defeating teams by double digits.
The Lady Hawks defeated Rehoboth Christian (10-7, 2-1) handily by a score of 49-29 on January 27th. On January 29th the Lady Hawks defeated Navajo Pine (7-12, 0-3) by a score of 55-15. High scorers for the Lady Pirates were Jasie Garcias with 22 points and Christianna Carillo with 10 points. Then on January 31st they defeated Hozho Academy, (11-8, 1-2) by a score of 56-25.
In that game Christianna Carillo had put up 13 points and Brianna Carillo had 20 points.
“The girls have been working incredibly hard to achieve the outsole they deserve and have earned by working together,” said Martinez.
Next up for the Lady Hawks will be a game against Ramah (6-12, 2-1) on February 3rd.
“Regarding Ramah the girls will continue to maintain the same level of performance–nothing will change – they will continue to demonstrate the skills and qualities we’ve been working on,” said Martinez.
The Lady Pirates are ranked 4th in 2A just behind number 1 Mesa Vista, Tatum and Texico.
The nmotsports.com coaches poll has the Lady Hawks ranked 4th also. The L-A boys basketball team is currently 4-14 after splitting their last 2 games. They were defeated by Rehoboth Christian by a score of 71-38 on January 27th. The defeated Navajo Pine 86-64 on January 29th. In their last game on January 31st with Hozho Academy they were defeated 54-37.
