With one game left the GHS Lady Pirate basketball team is wrapping up their season after a good win against district rival St. Pius last week on February 10 by a score of 54-43.
“Defensively we were smarter with our fouls this time around,” said GHS head coach Jesi Rael.
“We also put some good pressure and finally had four complete quarters of that consistent effort.”
The Lady Pirates outscored St. Pius every quarter except the fourth.
Mandagaran said of her offense, “Offensively, the Lady Pirates attacked the rim and we got more paint touches—and we made smarter decisions than last time we faced them.”
The Pirates on February 13th lost to Highland 76-61. “We shot ourselves in the foot –too many self-inflicted wounds with silly turnovers–we missed 12 free throws and we still had a chance to win—we only lost by 6,” said Mandagaran of that contest.
In the end the Pirates lost 55-49. Mandagaran summed up the game by stating, “Thanks for our smart aggressive defense we were still competitive until the end.”
The Lady Pirates will wrap up their season on Tuesday, February 17th in a home game.
