GRANTS, N.M. - The Grants High School Lady Pirate Basketball teams are 1-3 however, their record is a bit deceiving as they have lost two games by a total of three points.` On December 1 they lost to St. Michaels by a score of 50-48.

Then on December 4 they lost to Bernalillo 57-56.

“Bernalillo was a close one,” said GHS head coach Jesi Mandagaran. “We lost our point guard in the 1st quarter due to injury—but we still held down.”

Mandagaran credited her posts with “doing and outstanding job” however the team overall “didn’t execute the game plan” in the 4th quarter according to Mandagaran.

Mandagaran was very proud of Promise Garcia who contributed 24 points in that game.

Most recently they matched up with Laguna-Acoma on December 6th in an annual game and defeated them 39-25.

“We are still out Demi Martinez due to her injury,” said Mandagaran. “We came out cold in the first half—LA great 2-4 zone.”

Mandagaran added, “We loosened up and got hot int he second half and executed the game plan better.”

Mandagaran is fixing up the “holes” and “becoming more well rounded.”

Mandagaran plans on implementing what they are working on on the future games with Zuni and Bloomfield.

“More and more things are coming together,” said Mandagaran
