GHS boys and girls track team participated recently at a track meet at Thoreau High School’s Robin Langer Classic hosted by Gallup High School. Several boys and girls placed in the top three of their events. Notables on the boy’s team were Luis Lopez first in the 100- meter dash with a time of 12.10, Knight Long first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.94, Bobby Perez first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.29 and Manuel Gonzales first in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.43. The Pirates also placed first in the 4X100 meter relay with a time of 45.40

Notables for the Lady Pirates were Jenna Gurule first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.44 , Iyessa Arriaga first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:42, Mia Apodaca first in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 57.14. The Lady Pirates also placed first in the 4X200 meter relay and the Sprint medley relay with a time of 2:02.

The Laguna-Acoma Hawks track and field team has been busy as they traveled to Rehoboth High School to participate in the 2022 High Desert Cold Weather Classic. Notables at that meet were Sheldo Cheromiah who placed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.10, Sean-Paul Holtry who placed first in the 400- meter dash with a time of 59.21, and Demion Aragon who placed first in the discus with a 90.02. The Lady Hawks also participated in the meet.

The Lady Pirates tennis team currently is 1-4 after a 7-2 loss to Lady Tigers of Los Lunas (6-1) on Friday March 25. Sophomore Annaliesa Lowther (6-2, 3-6) and senior Raine Graham (7-6, 1-6, 1-0) won their respective matches. Their next match will also be on Tuesday, March 29 against Valencia High School (2- 8). The GHS boy’s tennis team (2-3) also has their next match with Valencia High School (6-4) on Tuesday. Five members of the Grants High School golf team, boys and girls, played at the first annual Crystal Wood Tournament hosted by East Mountain High School.
