New Mexicans Competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics

As the world gears up for the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Cibola community proudly supports the athletes and staff members with roots in New Mexico who will be showcasing their talents on the global stage. Among them are five athletes and two staff members from The University of New Mexico (UNM), who will represent their countries and make New Mexicans proud.

Golfing Stars Three former UNM golfers are set to compete in Paris:

Manon De Roey (Belgium): Making her Olympic debut, De Roey was a key player for the Lobos, earning All-American Scholar honors and contributing to a Mountain West Conference (MW) title.

Victor Perez (France): Another debutant, Perez was a standout at UNM, being a threetime All-MW selection and a two-time Academic All-American.

• Gavin Green (Malaysia): Competing in his third Olympics, Green is a record-holder at UNM, with notable achievements including multiple All-American titles and MW Golfer of the Year honors.

Golf Schedule:

• Men’s Individual Stroke Play: Aug 1-4, 1 a.m. MT

• Women’s Individual Stroke Play: Aug 7-10, 1 a.m. MT

Track and Field Champions

Two UNM track and

field alumni will compete:

• Josh Kerr (Great Britain): The reigning World Champion in the 1,500m, Kerr will face his rival, Jakob Ingebrigtsen. Kerr recently set an indoor two-mile world record and a new British record in the Mile.

• Weini Kelati (USA): Making her Olympic debut in the 10,000m, Kelati has set American records in the Half Marathon and 20 km. Her journey from Eritrea to becoming a U.S. citizen and champion is inspiring.

Track and Field Schedule:

• Men’s 1,500m: First Round on Aug 2, Repechage Round on Aug 3, Semi-Final on Aug 4, Final on Aug 6

• Women’s 10,000m Final: Aug 9, 12:55 p.m. MT

Dedicated Staff Members

Ellis Dawson: A UNM graduate and longtime USA Basketball staff member, Dawson will return as a manager for Team USA Basketball.

• MacKenzie White: A former Lobo tennis player and current dietician for the USOPC, White will be working with swimming and track & field teams.

Cibola, while a New Mexico State University community, stands in solidarity and support of our fellow New Mexicans. Their dedication and achievements inspire us all, and we eagerly anticipate cheering them on as they compete in Paris. Go Team New Mexico! Go team USA!
