The GHS football team will test their talents this Thursday as they travel to Santa Rosa High School to scrimmage just before the start of the regular season.
“Our focus over most of the summer was getting bigger, faster and stronger,” said GHS head coach Steve Brown.
“Most positions have been locked in but we are still looking for a consistent center position–I’m waiting for the right guy to just take the job.”
With that being said football is a contact sport and with that come key injuries.
“Senior running back and linebacker, Joe Clawson, has been dealing with a knee issue for a couple of weeks and senior linebacker Brandon Wheeler is dealing with a strained ham string,” said Brown. “Fortunately we have Julian Fernandez and Victor Chavira that have shown us they can help at the running back position.”
Brown’s summer workout motto, “Nobody Cares” is designed to minimize excuses and to encourage his team to “continue to put their best out there and get it done.”
Brown had many accolades for many players who worked hard over the summer and are starting to shine just before the regular season starts.
Brown is also eager to put the summer behind and start the season. “The scrimmage can’t come soon enough,” said Brown. “We are anxious to get the season going and the players are ready to show the football world what they got.”
The start of the regular season will be on August 22nd when the Pirates travel to Miyamura High School to take on the Patriots on their home field.
