Pirates Beat Pintos in Stormy Homecoming game 19-6

Body

The Pirates defeated rival the Moriarty Pintos in the homecoming game last Saturday. One would think that a 2pm game in New Mexico in October would have “cool” weather. Think again. A Storm with a capital “s” brought rain, sleet, wind and lightning to the Port of the Pirates. Despite the weather, the Pirates dominated early scoring a touchdown in the second and third quarter, however, the extra points were no good making it a 12-0 Pirate lead at the half.

The Pirates scored a touchdown in the third quarter to make the score 19-0. As the weather worsened the Pintos managed a touchdown and missed the extra point opportunity to make the score 19-6. With under three minutes to play the lightning detector went off causing a weather delay. The weather did not improve, and the head official made the decision to call the game.

Tristin Fernandez made seven attempts and three completions for 67yards. Fernandez also had one touchdown as Andrez Lazos had the other two touchdowns.

Lazos had 111-yards rushing.

The Pirates improve to 5-3 and 4-1. Next up will be an away game against the Bernalillo Spartans.

The weather also diminished the homecoming week, as the popular powder puff game was called at halftime and the ever popular bonfire was canceled.
