Former softball players suited up and dusted off their gloves and bats as they played an alumni game last weekend.
The theme of the event, “Once a Pirate always a Pirate,” brought the former players, current players and fans together to reminisce and enjoy the sport of softball. That theme “Resonated deeply with all who participated and is a true sentiment that our school’s athletic legacy is shared by everyone who has ever put on that Pirate uniform,” said GHS head softball coach Victor Aldaz.
“The competition was good with several impressive performances throughout the event,” said Aldaz.
A who’s who of lady Pirate softball alumni won the top awards. MVP was alumni Aubrey Trujillo, Jocelyn Garcia took the “Homerun Derby” award, Jasmine Morlang earned the “Golden Glove” award for defense, Jesi Mandagaran won the “Angry Jack Jet” award for the fast baserunning.
The goal of the game was to bring alumni and current players together so that all participants could “show off their skills” and “just have fun.”
The Alumni team was “victorious” yet Aldaz stressed that both teams left the game with a sense of Pirate pride and accomplishment.
Aldaz summed up the game by stating, “This event was a testament to the lasting bonds forged through sports and school spirit.
