Laguna Man Sentenced for Assault

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Andres Nathaniel Harjo, a 25-year-old member of Laguna Pueblo, has been sentenced to 15 months and 11 days in prison for an assault with intent to commit a felony. United States Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez for the District of New Mexico made the official announcement.

Harjo's legal journey began when he pleaded guilty to the felony assault on September 11, 2023. Court documents reveal that the incident took place on February 15, 2020, at the shared residence of Harjo and the victim, identified as Jane Doe. The assault only came to an end when a third party intervened.

Upon his release from prison, Harjo will face a strict set of conditions. He will be under supervised release for a period of three years. During the initial six months of this release, Harjo will be mandated to reside at a residential reentry center. In addition, he will be required to undergo literacy education, participate in vocational rehabilitation programming, and receive sex offense treatment and counseling.

The investigation into this case was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, with assistance from the Pueblo of Laguna Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Alexander F. Flores has been responsible for prosecuting this case.
