MILAN, N.M. - The Village of Milan and Milan Fire Department partnered up to gather donations for a shelter of evacuees in Glorieta, New Mexico. Milan Mayor Felix Gonzales went around to local businesses collecting donations, and community members also dropped of donations at 701 U.S. Route 66 in Milan on May 12 and May 13. MFD then delivered the truck-full of donations, including things like water, Gatorade, nonperishable snacks, etc., to help the evacuees affected by fires in northern NM. MFD Chief Daniel Urioste spoke on what helping out means to to him: “If it were to happen to us, we’d like the communities to come and help us as well. It’s a joint thing. We all help each other, that’s what we do for our community, for our state and everybody. Not too long ago we had it happen here too. We know what it’s like and we feel for everybody and we want to make sure everybody’s safe and has enough supplies and their quality of life is hopefully a little better after we get done with this delivery.”
