MILAN, N.M. – With assistance from New Mexico State Legislators Eliseo Lee Alcon and Harry Garcia, Milan Police Department was able to acquire a new 2022 Dodge Charger.

The Charger cost about $52,000 most of which was paid for using Junior Money from the State of New Mexico. MPD only had to pay around $2,000 to finish equipping the vehicle with the equipment police need to do their jobs, like lights, sirens, cages, and gun racks.

Milan Mayor Felix Gonzales thanked the legislators for their assistance in getting new vehicles for the police. The new Charger still needs to have decals put on it to make it an official marked vehicle. Legislators and Milan officials joked about not marking the vehicle, with Chief of Police Carl Ustupski saying that even though the car is “Ready to rock and roll,” it cannot be used in the event of a highspeed chase through the village without legal markings.
