Milan Trustees Sign Contracts and Hear Updates

MILAN, N.M. – On Thursday, August 18, The Village of Milan held its Board of Trustees Regular Meeting. Parts of the agenda included an update from the Police Department, consideration of professional services contracts with Economic Development and the Chamber of Commerce, and the consideration of purchases for the Fire Department, Police Department, and Kearn’s Field Park.

Police Department Update

There have been 12 “shots fired” calls since July 10. This same issue happened last year as well. Milan police chief Ustupski is working on an operation plan to combat it. An unnamed member of the community was struck by the train and lost their life. Regular investigation discovered that there have been several near misses on the tracks between Milan and Grants. They have requested that the railroad should contact Milan dispatch when this happens and they will communicate with BNSF agents more frequently. They have also been offered training on railroad procedures. Since the last meeting, it has now been made a priority to locate people lighting fireworks in the community.

Professional Services Contract with Economic Development The Board fully approved a contract with Cibola Communities Economic Development Foundation. The amount of $15,000 was already approved in a previous meeting.

Professional Services Contract with Chamber of Commerce The Board fully approved a contract with the Grants-Cibola County Chamber of Commerce. The amount of $15,000 was already approved in a previous meeting. This contract is for marketing ideas for the Village of Milan.

Consideration of Purchase of Off-Road Vehicle and Equipment for Fire Department The Board fully approved the purchase of the off-road vehicle and equipment. The total cost being $50,028.20.

Consideration of Purchase of Vehicle and Equipment for the Police Department The Board fully approved the purchase up to $50,000 for the vehicle and equipment with the remainder of the money owed coming out of the Law Enforcement Protection Fund. 2022 Dodge charger totaling $34,968. Equipment totaling $15,956.55.

Consideration of Equipment for Kearn’s Field Park Improvements The Board fully approved the purchase and installation of a net to protect the community and nearby properties to the field. The amount of $54,700 will come out of Kearn’s Field Junior Money funding. The Village of Milan Planning and Zoning meeting will be on September 1 at 4:30 p.m. The next Board of Trustees Regular meeting will be held on September 15 at 5:30 p.m.
