The New Mexico Building & Trades Council has endorsed Joseph Maestas for New Mexico State Auditor. The council represents over 12,000 construction craft professionals belonging to 15 construction craft labor unions throughout New Mexico. The Council’s affiliated member unions demonstrate a commitment to world class skills, coupled with a 21st century labor/management model founded upon the principles of performance, pride and partnership.

The Council made its decision, in part, based on its long and constructive relationship with Maestas. In Joseph’s long career with the Federal Highway Administration, he has been effective in ensuring highway contractors delivered the work they were paid for and protected construction craft professionals from being short-changed by unscrupulous contractors.

Joseph Maestas has also long been a public service champion for working families in New Mexico. As a Santa Fe City Councilor and as Mayor of Espanola, he has always stood up for public employees, construction craftsmen, and the Building Trades Unions and fought for the expansion of a living wage along with its strengthened enforcement.

We believe Joseph Maestas’ experience matters and are proud to endorse him for New Mexico State Auditor.
