GRANTS, NM — On January 16, 2024, at approximately 2:54 p.m. Grants Police Department Officers were dispatched to Mt. Taylor Elementary following a single 911 call to Cibola Regional Communications Center of a possible active shooter.

GPD officers responded to Mt. Taylor Elementary within minutes and did not notice any signs of panic or distress from the faculty, staff, and students who were actively being dismissed from class. Officers coordinated with the school’s principal and staff and conducted a complete sweep of the Mt. Taylor Elementary School’s interior and exterior. Following the walkthroughs officers determined that there was no active threat towards the school’s students and staff.
