GRANTS, N.M. – The Grants Public Library is closing out its Summer Reading Program with a bonus ninth week focused on archaeology.
The final week begins Monday with “Dino Poo Detective,” a hands-on activity that invites children to act as paleontologists and examine edible “dinosaur poo” made from chocolate pudding and a variety of candy and snack ingredients.
Participants will search for clues inside the pudding cups to determine whether their dinosaur was an herbivore or carnivore. Herbivore cups will contain items representing grass, plants and fruit, while carnivore cups will include candy bones and gummy animals representing prey.
Tuesday’s activity will feature a dinosaur “I Spy” coloring page. Children can visit the library at 10 a.m. Wednesday for a craft activity, along with a bonus dinosaur egg craft.
Story time will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday.
The program concludes Friday with carnivore claw sandwiches. Families are also reminded that Friday is the final day to turn in completed reading logs for a chance to win prizes in the Summer Reading Program drawings.
The bonus archaeology week offers children, tweens, teens and families one more opportunity to explore prehistoric life through reading, crafts, food and discovery.
