GRANTS, N.M. — More than $4 million in roadway rehabilitation work is scheduled this month on two key routes in the Grants and Milan area, according to the New Mexico Department of Transportation.
NMDOT District Six announced a more than $2.2 million roadway rehabilitation project on NM 605 in Milan beginning Aug. 14, along with a more than $1.8 million nighttime roadway rehabilitation project on Interstate 40 east of Grants beginning Aug. 16.
The NM 605 project will take place on the northbound and southbound lanes between mile markers 0.2 and 13. NMDOT District Six and contractor Brasier Asphalt, Inc. will place a one-inch overlay along the roadway.
Work on NM 605 is expected to be completed by the end of August, weather permitting. The contractor’s work hours are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Drivers should expect minor delays and plan travel accordingly.
On I-40 east of Grants, NMDOT District Six and contractor Albuquerque Asphalt Inc. will place an Open-Graded Friction Course, or OGFC, in both the eastbound and westbound directions between mile markers 118 and 126.
Nighttime work on I-40 is expected to take place from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists should expect minor delays and plan for additional travel time. The project is also expected to be completed by the end of August, weather permitting.
Both projects are described by NMDOT as safety improvement investments intended to improve the safety and condition of New Mexico’s transportation system.
Drivers are reminded to use caution in work zones, obey all posted signs and traffic control devices, reduce speed, and remain alert for construction personnel and equipment.
