Marty Wesley Marquez, lovingly known as “Wesley,” “Weasel,” and “Papa WeWe,” passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on May 16, 2026, at the age of 67. He was born in Grants, New Mexico, on July 19, 1958, to Margaret and Thomas Marquez.
Wesley was truly one of a kind — a true cowboy, storyteller, and a man who lived life boldly and fully. He was known for his humor, unforgettable stories, and the way he could make people feel welcomed and loved.
He is survived by his loving wife, Luz Marquez; his children, Carl Marquez and wife Megan, Alyssa Holbrook and husband Steven, and Isabella Sena-Marquez and husband Patrick O’Leary. He also leaves behind the grandchildren he adored: Carlos Marquez, Josephine Marquez, Beau Marquez, Noah (Nova) Sena, Finnegan O’Leary-Sena, and Miguel Sabroe Jr. He is also survived by his siblings Raymond Marquez, Ruby Marquez, Ivan Marquez, Adrian Marquez, and Amanda Vigil, along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Thomas Marquez; his sister, Bertha Marquez; and his grandparents, Francisca and Roman Sandoval. Wesley loved dancing, boxing, fishing, traveling, bull riding, and spending time with the people he loved most. He especially enjoyed the nightlife of Albuquerque, including nights spent at the Downs and Caravan.
Family meant everything to him. His yearly matanza and Easter celebrations became cherished traditions that brought family and friends together. For Wesley, the greatest joy came from hearing laughter, sharing stories, and creating memories with the people he loved.
His children and grandchildren were the center of his heart and his greatest pride. He showed up for the people he loved through every celebration, hardship, and moment in between. Wesley was also known for speaking the truth exactly as he saw it. He gave advice freely, always with honesty, humor, and life experience behind his words. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories filled with laughter, dancing, music, stories, advice, and unconditional love. Though our hearts are broken, we are forever grateful for the memories and love he gave so freely. Wesley lived life on his own terms, and his spirit will continue to live on through every story told, every family gathering shared, and every laugh that echoes in his memory.
And in true Wesley fashion — to all the girls he loved before. Honorary mentions: David Olivar, Patrick Serna, Louie Palacios, Cody McDaugale, Phillip Martinez, and Hector Salazar.
