New Mexico really is the Land of Enchantment.

In my 23 years of life, I have been from sea to shining sea, I have stood in this nation’s amber waves of grain. I have been fortunate to visit many of the majestic states across our beautiful Union, but I have never been to a place as incredible as New Mexico.

New Mexico may not boast the most amount of greenery, she may not be home to vast flowing rivers, but she is home to great public lands – and they are all natural! She has the most beautiful starry skies, serene places for fishing, and sunsets that could make a poet cry.

Most importantly, New Mexico is home to something truly special – chile!

While I was away, I would have incredible cravings for green chile, even red! I am not a big fan of red, I still like it, but I would much rather have green. Our traditional New Mexican foods are something I am so in credibly proud of, I’ve had plenty of food from plenty of other cultures – and its good, but it’s not New Mexico good. Colorado, Texas and Arizona can eat their hearts out because New Mexico is where it’s at. They might try and imitate what we have here, but they can never live up to the perfection that is New Mexican food.

Now, I’ve never understood why we spell it “chile” instead of “chili,” but I’ve come to learn this is just something fundamentally New Mexican, and I love that!

I’ve never had the luxury of leaving the United States to visit another country, I’m not too bothered by that because I love the US, and there is nowhere I’d rather be, but I have had the luxury of exploring our beautiful country. In my travels and studies, I really have learned something special: Home is New Mexico.

Are we number one in everything? No. But damn if we don’t try, because New Mexicans are resilient, New Mexicans are brave, New Mexicans are some of the best Americans out there.

I love our state, the yellow and red of our awesome flag, the intricacies behind the Zia symbol, our quick roadrunners and scaly rattlesnakes are just a few of the pieces that make this state the best in the Union.

New Mexico is a beautiful state.
