Pragmatism rules

Dear Editor:

I have always been an optimist with a strong streak of pragmatism. After reading the Citizen’s articles on Bright Green, pragmatism rules.

It was a relief to read in the Citizen that Mayor Hicks and Erik Garcia challenged the assertions by Bright Green's spokesmen regarding several issues. These include lack of communication, as well as misstatements by the company regarding cleanup of the property on George Hanosh Boulevard.

Apparently Mr. Rafhi misses the irony in his statement that he wants to do "everything right." Eg., when he enthusiastically describes a workforce "ready to work," this belies the fact that he has no building permits, no tax ID, and no water rights, according to Mayor Hicks. And this at a time when we have been told to limit our water use because of water scarcity. Will the company actually provide funds for training local workers, which they had claimed earlier? When asked about this in the prior article by the Citizen, the company spokesman said he didn't know. Further, according to the Citizen, a Bright Green spokesman had said they would be providing about 370 jobs, which now has morphed into the vague "over 100" jobs. How many jobs will really be produced?

Erik Garcia's denial that the company had been in contact with him adds one more name to the growing list of city and state officials who have made similar denials, after the company's stating otherwise. UNM makes the list even longer when they said, in contrast to Bright Green's assertion of communication with them, that they had never had any word from Bright Green and that the marijuana company they are working with is called Green Flower.

Considering our need for economic development in Grants, how can we hold this company accountable? This is extremely worrying, considering our lack of water and the choking quantities of air pollution which will result from marijuana production, asserted by the Citizen and by preliminary research.

Has the company given any assurances that they will provide the necessary air and water filters? Even if they had, can we trust them?

Sincerely,

Judith Andreica

Turn them off

Dear Editor:

Well the National Yellow Journalistic News Outlets continue to carry the story of Gabby Petito’s death to the point her boyfriend Brian Laundries’ parents have had crazy people come to their home banging on their doors calling them out, VIDEO: Arrest Made at Laundrie Home After Assault is Caught on Tape - Red Right Patriot. Gabby’s story has gotten as much attention as the Trump Russia coverage, they have nothing else to talk about, and may have worn out the Trump Russia story. Of course, President Biden’s blunders are off limits just like former President Obama’s were. This is what the fake news does even when their conduct is wrong and egregious and may lead to someone getting hurt, they only care about their ratings. Even Dog the Bounty Hunter has gotten involved. I have watched some of his shows which seemed ok, but now I wonder if he’s just like the rest of the publicity hounds Dog The Bounty Hunter Laundrie - Bing News.

A congresswomen was even followed into a bathroom this week by protesters not happy with some position she was voting on Biden Follows Congresswomen Into Bathroom To Negotiate Infrastructure Bill – The Burning Platform. Why the news media allows this kind of stuff to make headlines is beyond me. We are talking about two protesters who do not represent the majority of the people, but it is made to look like it’s the end of the world or chicken little the sky is falling watch us. I miss the days of Walter Cronkite who just reported the news, did not put his two cents or political views into the story, and believe it or not was an amateur radio operator, Walter Cronkite, KB2GSD (SK) (arrl.org).

I did find one thing this week that a Biden appointee said that I liked, Biden Administration Orders ICE To End Mass Workplace Raids (forbes.com). This looks bad and the conservative news outlets make sure all you see is the main headline. They leave out the part they want ICE to start going after the people who hire il legals and pay them next to nothing undermining jobs for regular people and putting more profit in their pockets. Too much of the national media today is spent on telling the part the story they want you to hear to keep you mad at the other side and help keep us divided. Unfortunately, sometimes some people take some of this stuff too serious and don’t take the time to really dig into the whole story and pull stunts like Jan 6th now found at 2021 United States Capitol attack - Wikipedia. So, vote them out, be sure they are telling the whole truth, or turn them off!

Signed.
