Letters to the Editor

Dear editor, Mr. Warren Bennet says we don’t need assault rifles. I was once shot at as a Milan Police Officer by Fabian Pacheco, a convicted felon with an assault rifle. One night after the sheriff department went home, I took a call out of city limits. I snuck around him in the dark and disarmed him by myself. You see in those days the Village of Milan had no assault rifles. I was given a used bullet proof vest that does not stop assault rifles or hunting rifles of any kind, even with today’s vests. Fabian was given a ticket, his gun back, and a ride home after the sheriff’s department showed up. Fabian went to prison later for manslaughter and drugs.

Years later, my second sheriff, now Judge Valdez let me get AR-15’s for the department. We came close to using them one day when about 800 out of 1200 illegal immigrants being held in Milan at Corrections Corporation of America facility did not want to return themselves to their cells. They threw whatever they could get at us laying around. Thankfully CCA keep the yard clean of large rocks, had good tear gas, climbed up on the roof, and gassed them good. I remember a lady, maybe a reporter shows up and complained why we had to have these awful AR-15’s. We were outnumbered and if that many tried to climb over the fence at one time my family lives about 1.5 miles from CCA. CCA, after this, electrified their fences at both places. And yes, if this ever happens again, and the electricity goes off and a bunch of them manage to get out. I sure as hell want my AR-15 even though I am retired, my family and I still live within easy walking distance of no less than three prisons in Grants. Yes, I voted for Trump as a Democrat, things were a whole lot better than what we have now! As for abortion, I am pro-life, but know there are times when there is a very good reason for it. My point, Biden voted abortion down in 1982, said women should not have them, and the states should decide. Biden is the biggest hypocrite in the world, Google it! I took a lot more risks in my life than most ever did!

Signed, Mr. Harry L. Hall-Veteran USAF Retired Police/Sheriff Lt.
