Dear editor, On behalf of the City of Grants I would like to take the opportunity to thank the New Mexico Department of Transportation for doing such a tremendous job cleaning the freeway (I-40) and all entrances and exits into Grants! Thousands of bags of trash have been picked up and properly discarded! Those who toss their trash out of their moving vehicles or illegally dump on private or public lands show total disrespect for the law and their actions detract greatly from the beauty of our Land of Enchantment.

I would like to thank the employees of the City of Grants and the Village of Milan for keeping the medians and streets clean and free of weeds and trash! For the businesses of our community this is essential for our economy to prosper. With the monsoon rains possible on the horizon, I would ask all residents to cut your weeds down and discard them properly before they get out of hand. When the weeds are smaller they come out much easier and the job is easier to do. If you wait until they are 3' high, the job becomes a huge production! Remember that all residents and businesses are responsible for the weeds in the front, back and side of their yards and to the curb.

'Look after the land and the land will look after you, destroy the land and it will destroy you.' This old saying is as true today as it was when it was first spoken. A citizen that loves their country, state, or community, will do everything in their power to keep them clean. Let's continue to take pride in our communities and keep them clean and free of weeds, trash and junk.

Robert S. Windhorst, Code Enforcement Officer, City of Grants.
