Opposing abortion legislation

Dear Editor;

As a child and throughout my adult life, I have always tried to keep the commandments of the Lord. My mother kept the Ten Commandments on our refrigerator in the kitchen for all of us kids to see and to learn. I have tried to keep the commandments, not because I was afraid of God, but because I love Him. I believe there are great blessings that come from obeying the commandments in our life.

When I read that one of the main priorities of this NM Legislative Session was to take advantage of the results of this past election to push through Senate Bill 10 that would allow abortion for any reason up to birth. The last time this bill was introduced, it failed because of the uproar of the residents of New Mexico over this heinous bill.

So bad was this bill two years ago, when the state legislature tried to pass it, that our two State Representatives, Harry Garcia and Lee Alcon were roundly criticized for voting for it. Senators Sanchez and Munoz, State Representatives, Patty Lundstrom and Wonda Johnson voted against it. If it was defeated last time because of the uproar of Godly citizens that see this as a violation of God’s commandments not to kill, then why are they moving so quickly to pass it now?

You would think that these democrat state legislators would spend their time passing legislation that would get Covid 19 vaccinations out to the public and fixing the economy they allowed the Governor to tank by putting small businesses back to work. But, instead, they are concentrating their time weakening law enforcement by working as hard as they can to pass a civil rights bill that they know is intended to limit the authority of the police. They could also be saving our State’s economy by protecting oil, gas and coal and the good jobs they provide to the hard-working residents of our state. But instead, they are doing everything they can to show disrespect for life, our economy, our safety, and our Constitutional Rights to bear arms.

Truly we live in the time prophesied by the Prophet Isaiah, where evil is called good, and good is called evil. Our beautiful land of enchantment will never be blessed if we continue to allow these legislators to pass bad legislation. God will not be mocked.
