Pondering Pundit

The heart of a community

Just the other day, on Facebook, there was a post called “do you remember when.” This post asked the questions if you could name a business that was once in Grants that is no longer here. After I made my post of the several businesses that came to mind, I began to read what the other posters were writing. There are a lot of businesses that have come and gone from our city. Then I got to thinking why so many of these places closed shop. My first thought was economic reasons. Then out of the blue a conversation popped up in my living room about going to Albuquerque to go shopping for a few things. Then it hit me. I was the reason so many merchants have closed their doors in our county. I was doing my shopping elsewhere. I bet I am not the only one either.

Tis the season to support the local merchants. That’s right, it’s the holiday shopping time. With Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner, citizens of Cibola County will be busy prepping for these two holidays. Stocking the pantry for those special dinners and buying the gifts that grace the base of the Christmas trees.
