Proud of Cibola

Dear editor,

Over the past few weeks the Cibola County DWI program and the Grants Municipal Court has been sending community service workers to pick up trash in Grants. This has contributed to the natural beauty of our City. As hikers of the Continental Divide trail come thru Grants I have heard many positive comments about the cleanliness of our City. I want to express my appreciation to all of our community service workers. Everyone of them have worked hard to fulfill their obligation to the Courts and to give something back to the community. When you see these fine men and women, please honk your horn and wave! Better yet, stop and say, "Thank You".

I want to give a shout out to NMDOT! They have been picking up trash along McBride Rd in Grants and have done an amazing job! Last week I saw tons of bags filled with trash along Old Route 66 thru the Village of Milan, where the NMDOT had their cleanup crews! What a magnificent effort by NMDOT to keep our communities clean and free of trash!

We should all take pride in the communities we live in. We do this by packing out what we pack in. I have seen great improvements over the past seven years in the way we care about our area! Cleanups are going on all around the County. I want to thank Cibola County Commissioners Christine Lowery and Ralph Lucero for showing up and helping out! Leadership is always top down!

As summer is upon us and the conditions in our State are very dry, please be careful with your recreation and do everything you can to prevent fires. We have lost many ancestral sites and homes to fire in New Mexico. Please use caution. A big thank you to our fire fighters and first responders for their heroism and dedication in protecting our communities.

I am proud to live in New Mexico. I am grateful to live in Cibola County. We live in an amazing place!
