Special County Commission meeting

Dear Editor;

As your constituent, as a member of this great community of Grants, and as a member of the Pueblo of Acoma I learned today that the special meeting to be held on December 22, 2020 will be a meeting to consider and to vote on pay raises for the newly elected officials and elected officials currently in office who were re-elected. My objection to these considerations for increases in pay for yourselves as elected public officials will be with callous and absolute disregard for the communities at-large while they struggle every day tirelessly to put food on their table for their families or how they are going to meet their expenses, to pay their bills, or to keep their lights on, to stay warm or to put food on their table. These things I have noted, I know you hear about daily or maybe you know someone or might even be your neighbors. The considerations in these raises as I understand are no small amount of increases but rather a pretty significant amount of increases for individual salaries. As a public servant you chose to run to serve in government, to help and to serve above all for the good of others, perhaps as leaders in this community re-evaluating and doing the right thing can be considered for all those constituents who trusted in you and employ you, as the elected officials to be that better servant. It seems this is all being done without the public’s input essentially without transparency.

Thank you for taking this time. It is not every day that I stop to express my sincere thoughts and I want to thank you for taking this time. Sending you all best wishes for good health.

With warm regards,

Georgia Routzen-Sanchez
