The world is enflamed. NATO is multiplying its military force on the Russian border by seven times its current strength; China continues to threaten Taiwan and the US with military action; Russia actively carries out a genocidal war against the people of Ukraine, recently striking multiple civilian targets with no goal other than to kill as many innocent people as possible; China is holding over a million Uyghur Muslims in concentration camps; Iran and Argentina recently requested to join an alliance led by Russia and China. And instead of focusing on these issues which spit in the face of American leadership and human rights, our country works to strip away the rights of women.

Abortion is not codified in the constitution – it is not a constitutional right – but as a means of healthcare it is a human right. States are working to pass laws today that are directly going after the pregnant woman seeking an abortion. Now, in a concurring statement he wrote to join the majority decision at the Supreme Court, Justice Clarence Thomas says that other human rights should be “reconsidered.” Those rights now under threat include the right to marriage of, and sexual relations between people of the same sex, and access to contraceptives like condoms or birth control pills.

I thank the government to stay out of American wallets. I thank the government to stay out of American bedrooms. What two consenting adults do when in their homes is not the business of the government, nor is it the business of any other person not directly involved in the relationship.

Human rights are under assault here at home. I am not an encourager of abortion, but I do think its hilarious that many of the people against abortion are worried about their second amendment rights being taken away, and claim that without firearms, Americans will lose their rights. Well – newsflash – all the women in the United States have lost the federal right to seek an abortion. Americans are actively losing rights, and others that strongly effect the LGBTQ community are under assault.

As Americans, we have the right to disagree with each other’s lifestyles, but we should not be stripping down our neighbor’s right to live as they please. This is the Land of the Free – that’s what I was always taught. But apparently that motto doesn’t apply if you’re a woman seeking healthcare.

Certainly, when it comes to kids, I will not be adopting any children. I don’t want that responsibility right now and I am not even sure I’m equipped for that kind of responsibility. Since abortion access is now limited across the country, antiabortion folks need to step up and help support these babies that will otherwise end up in the foster system and become abandoned.

It's a sad day when rights are diminished, or watered down. It’s a tragic day when rights are eliminated entirely. Today, the US is in a strategic competition with China, and the biggest strength we had to stand on was our record of protecting human rights. Since the Supreme Court eliminated Roe v. Wade, the Chinese Communist Party has been pumping out anti-US propaganda. They claim that America just doesn’t want to see Asian nations succeed and has aways used human rights as the sword to keep Asian nations down, but now that America is at war with its women, its sword has been lowered and the only thing left shining is the hate the country has toward Asia. This is obviously not true. The US supports Taiwan, Japan, the Democratic Government of Myanmar (in exile) and all free people in the Quad Alliance. But China is using America’s internal conflict with abortion to feed its claim that the world needs a new leader.

If US-Chinese relations were a chess game, human rights would be the queen. America just knocked its Queen off the board by taking away some of her healthcare rights.
