Sticks and stones

Dear Editor:

As being a resident of Grants, NM and going to city council meetings on Facebook, it’s amazing to me how unprofessional our city leaders are, specifically the mayor. I’m always thinking in the back of my head that maybe he’ll snap out of it, grow up and act like an adult and a professional but every meeting it’s a disappointment. Countless times I hear him push the constitution like no one knows about it.

He talks about the First Amendment but in his mind, it only applies to him, anyone that disagrees with him and states an opinion he starts a fight with. Does he get off on that?

I don’t always disagree with him and what he does, the mayor has some good things he puts into the meetings, but his childlike demeanor takes over when he is questioned on an item like you’re not allowed to have your own First Amendment right opinion. I’ve witnessed this on the meetings, badgering the council, guest speakers, talking over people rudely.

As for him getting his feelings hurt over someone calling him a name, which he has ranted about over the years is ridiculous. Let it roll off your shoulders Mr. Mayor, remember this saying, “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”

You are not the first person to be called names nor will you be the last, grow up and take your own advice, “My rights don’t end where your feelings begin.”

As for the council, I believe they’re under the mayor’s thumb and can’t or aren’t allowed to think on their own. Granted, mayor, you have done some good things but your presentation, attitude toward the public and allowing yourself to hear other’s difference of opinion like an adult American needs work. A lot of work.

Thank you,

Henry Meyer
