Cibola Fishing Report – June 30–July 6

Body

BLUEWATER LAKE, N.M. – The first week of July brought steady summer fishing conditions to Bluewater Lake, with trout and tiger muskie still reported as fair to good and the lake remaining open for recreation.

As the season moves deeper into summer, the continuing story is also the water level: Bluewater remains active and usable, but the reservoir continues its gradual decline.

At Bluewater Lake, fishing for trout and tiger muskie was reported as FAIR to GOOD when using PowerBait. There was no new stocking reported this week. For current conditions, anglers can visit Bluewater Lake State Park’s webpage or call 505-876-2391.

State Parks continues to remind visitors to wear life jackets when in or around the water.

Visitors should also remember that Stage II fire restrictions remain in effect at Bluewater Lake State Park. Under those restrictions, visitors may not build or use fires, campfires, charcoal, coal or wood stoves, including in developed campgrounds or picnic areas. Restrictions also apply to fireworks, smoking, certain equipment use, openflame work and off-road vehicle use. Wood gathering is prohibited within state park boundaries, and OHVs, ATVs and dirt bikes are not allowed in the park.

Bluewater Lake also has an EV charging station, and seasonal hours are in effect. From April 1 through Oct. 30, the park’s posted hours are 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Reservations are available through Reserve America at 877-664-7787.

Grants Riverwalk Pond

There were no fishing reports from the Grants Riverwalk Pond this week, but residents were seen out enjoying the park, including the new statues and the beauty of the downtown Riverwalk area. Even in quiet fishing weeks, the pond remains one of Grants’ most accessible public spaces for families, walkers and anglers looking for a quick local outing.
