The community calendar is reserved for non-profits and local events, these announcements will run at no charge but must be under 50 words. February 9

This Friday’s DVD “Concert for ALL People” features young performers #4. Sixteen-year-old Andre Watts plays Lizt’s Piano Concerto in E-Flat Minor. Leonard Bernstein hosts and conduct. Time – 4 p.m. Venue – Double Six Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave. Let music begin the weekend.

February 10 MainStreet Basket Bingo

Free Art Project

Two art camps take place at the Double Six Art Gallery in February. Saturday, the 10th, participants will create Valentine designs on peg boards. According to Myriah Scargati-Graham, art facilitator. Fun begins at 2 p.m. on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Baby-sitting NOT available.

February 13 Free Academy Award Nominees Showings

Moves, the magic medium, will be honored Sunday, March 10 at the Academy Awards Ceremony. On Saturday, February 13, and Saturday, March 2, two nominated films will be shown at the Double Six Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave. First – “Maestro”, second – “Oppenheimer.”

February 17 41st Annual Mount Taylor Quadrathlon

The Quad is a four-sport race up and back down the highest peak in NW New Mexico. Contestants are challenged to bike 13 miles up the steep paved road leading to Mt. Taylor then, run an additional 5 miles on a snowpacked gravel road before switching to a pair of crosscountry skis and ascending 2 miles on a groomed trail. Finally, racers strap on a pair of snowshoes and trek the final mile to the summit of Mt. Taylor; 5,400’ higher than where they started. Once stopping to catch their breath at the top, they turn around and brave the 22 mile stretch again to get back to the finish line.

Extended Double Six Gallery Hours

Due to out-of-town guests and participants in the February 17 Quad, the Double Six Gallery will offer expanded business hours Friday the 16th and Saturday the 17th. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Enjoy the Quad!

February 24 Free Art Camps

February’s second art camp, on Saturday, the 24th, will feature macrame. This is an art that originated in the Middle East (Turkey/Arabia). Ms. Myriah Scargati-Graham is the facilitator for the Double Six Gallery. Camp begins at 2 p.m. Remember – the arts for EVERYONE!

March 2 Free Movie – Green Book

Have you heard of the Green Book, which was used in southern states? In the movie of the book title, viewers meet an African-American classical paintist as he travels through the 1960s South. This film is featured Saturday, March 2 at 11 a.m. in the Double Six Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave.

March 10 Academy Awards

The Academy Awards ceremony is a major event, viewed by millions. Notable hosts have included Bob Hope, Johnny Carson and Billy Crystal. This is the 97th year and it will be aired Sunday, March 10 on ABC. Movie lovers will be watching enjoying. Will you?
