If there are any announcements you would like included in the community calendar, send a brief description of the event, a time and location with contact information to editor@cibolacitizen. com. The community calendar is reserved for non-profits and local events, these announcements will run at no charge but must be under 50 words. Deadline for community calendar submissions is Friday at 5 p.m.

Road Closure, City of Grants: There will be a road closure of Iron Ave. from Warren to Santa Fe Ave., including the Iron/High St. intersection, starting on Monday, February 19th, 2024 for 2 to 3 weeks for utility work. Residents of Iron and Hill St. will have access from Warren Ave. Please contact the City of Grants Special Projects office at 505-290-3722 for more information.

February 21 Milan Trustee Meeting The Village of Milan Board of Trustees will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 21 for a regular meeting at Milan Village Hall, 609 US Highway 66 in Milan, N.M.

Grants High School Anchors Club - Spring Blood Drive Wednesday February 21, 2024 the Grants High School Anchors Club will host its Spring Blood Drive in the Old Gym (off Roosevelt) on Feb. 21, 2024 from 8:30-1:30pm.

February 23 Free DVD Concert

Composer George Gershwin died at 37. Young, gifted musicians will perform with the New York Philharmonic on this Friday’s DVD program. Leonard Bernstein, who knew Gershwin, conducts and hosts. Program time is 4 p.m. in the Double Six Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe. The arts for EVERYONE!

February 24 Free Art Camps

This Saturday’s art project at the Double Six Art Gallery is making a macrame bracelet. Project begins at 2 p.m. with facilitator Myriah Scarpati-Grham. All ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Remember – the arts are for EVERYONE!

March Free Movies in Cibola this March March brings three movies to the Double Six Gallery and ALL are Academy Award winners of Picture of the Year. Movies are always free and snacks are available to the community. Films are “Green Book” – March 2, and the second is “Moonlight” – March 16, and “Spotlight” – March 30. The arts are for EVERYONE!

Free Art Camps for ALL March offers two art camps for all. The first is the 9th; the second , the 23rd. Venus is Double Six Gallery and time is 2 p.m. – location is Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave. Myriah Scarpati-Grham is the facilitator. Children must be accompanied by adults. Call 2877311 for details.

Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet Join the Grants Cibola County Chamber of Commerce as we celebrate the businesses and residents of Cibola County. We start at 6 p.m. on March 2 at the Cow Palace, 223 Betty Drive, Grants. This will be a great night, be sure to join us!

Free Movie – Green Book Actor Viggo Mortensen portrayed a racist who accepted the job of driving an African American musician through the Deep South in “Green Book” selected as the Best Picture in 2018. You are welcome to watch this film Saturday, March 2 at 1 p.m. in the Double Six Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave.

March 9 Free Art Camp – Shamrocks

St. Patrick’s Day is March 17. The art camp Saturday, March 9, will feature shamrocks trifolate plants used as an emblem by the Irish. Become a “wee” bit Irish at the Double Six Art Gallery beginning at 2 p.m. Location is Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave. All ages are welcome.

March 10 Daylight Savings Time Starts Starting at 2 a.m. on March 10, the clocks will “spring forward” by one hour.

March 16 Free Movie – “Moonlight”

“Moonlight” earned an Academy Award as the Best Flim in 2016. It breaks a young, Adrican American’s life into three parts – Little, Chiron and Black. Mahershala Ali earned his second nomination for his tole as a neighbor to the young man. Movie date is Saturday, March 16. Time is 1 p.m. Venue is Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave.

March 30 Free Movie – “Oppenheimer”

“Oppenheimer”s coming! “Oppenheimer”s coming! Oppenheimer is coming to Grants! This highly-acclaimed movie will be streamed Saturday, March 30 in the Double Six Art Gallery. Film is 3 hours, 45 minutes long and bathrooms are close by. Film begins at 1 p.m. Venue is on Route 66, 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave.
