November 2 Grants Cemetery Board Meeting

A Cemetery Board Meeting is scheduled for November 2 at 4:30 p.m. in the Grants City Hall Council Chambers, 600 W. Santa Fe Avenue, Grants. Agendas will be available on October 28 at City Hall.

November 5 Free Movie – “Secondhand Lions”

An aging, tame, retired circus lioness becomes a pet to a 14-year-old boy who is left with two, strange, great-uncles living on a ramshackle farm. Friendships develop amongst these characters. “Secondhand Lions”, the 2003 movie, will be shown this Saturday, Nov. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue. Movie shown at Ms. Lezlie Smith’s discretion.

November 10 Special Village of Milan Meeting

A Board of Trustees Special Meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2022, at 9 a.m. at Village Hall, 623 Uranium Avenue in Milan. Agendas will be available on Monday, November 7. MainStreet Veteran’s Celebration

Grants MainStreet invites you to join us for dinner on Friday, November 11 to the Double 6 Gallery in support of veterans living in and from our community. We want to highlight the incredible amount of service members in our community, and give them the opportunity to share their experiences in the service through art. Gabby's Cafe & Catering/Meal Planning will be catering the event, and veterans from Cibola County will be your artist de jour. MainStreet will conduct a live auction for the pieces provided by these talented service members, so you can have a piece of service in your home or business. GHS Band Honors All Who Serve

Grants High School will present the 20th Annual Veterans Salute- Honoring All Who Served on Thursday, November 10 at 7 pm at the Grants High School Auditorium. Admission is free and everyone is invited to attend. This year we will join with the members of the Mt. Taylor Quilt Guild to honor 10 of our local veterans with handmade quilts. We will also continue our tradition of honoring the veterans of Cibola County with pictures and other presentations during the concert. Performances by the Grants High School Choir and Concert band will feature patriotic and uplifting music. The Grants HS MCJROTC Color Guard will present the colors. The 2022 concerts marks 20 years since the first Veterans Day Concert was presented at Grants High School. This year we will be honored by GHS Band and Choir alumni who will be joining us for this performance. If you would like to honor a Veteran during the concert, you can email their picture to william.griner@gccs.k12.n m.us. Pictures must be received by 12 pm on November 9th to be included in this year's presentation. Please include the Veteran’s name, branch of service, and years of service with the picture. We look forward to seeing everyone at this year's Veterans Salute.

November 9 Grants Planning and Zoning Commission

The Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 5 :30 p.m. p.m. on November 9 at the City Hall Chambers, 600 W. Santa Fe Avenue. Agendas will be available November 4 at City Hall.

November 10 The Golf Course Advisory Board

Will meet at 1 p.m. November 10 at Coyote Del Malpais Golf Course located at 2001 George Hanosh Boulevard. Agendas will be available November 7 at Coyote Del Malpais.

November 12 Free Decorating Activity

The popular Sesame Street character, The Cookie Monster, would gleefully welcome the artistic cookie decorators who will gather at the Double Six Art Gallery, Saturday, Nov. 12 beginning at 1 p.m. Food art is fun!

November 19 Free movie – “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”

In “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”, the power of a positive human connection is depicted. An unhappy, cynical, magazine journalist meets tv icon Fred Rogers, who has a profound effect on his life. This 2019 movie will be shown Saturday, Nov. 19 at in the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue. Time – 2 p.m. It could life your spirit. Movie shown at Ms. Lezlie Smith’s discretion.

November 26 Free String Art Activity Dot-to-Dot String Art is to be enjoyed by young artists. It can improve hand-eye coordination. The activity takes place Saturday, Nov, 21, beginning at 2 p.m. in the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue. The arts are for everyone – of all ages.

December 3 Free Movie – “The Shop Around the Corner”

Long before dating apps, single people wrote letters to each other through Lonelyhearts clubs. James Stewart and Margaret Sullivan star in the classic film “The Shop Around the Corner” where their characters work. Showtime is 2 p.m., Saturday Dec. 3 at the Double Six Art Gallery / 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue.

December 10 Free Surprise Activity

The last Christmas-related art activity for the young is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 10. It will be a surprise to participants. The site is Double Six Art Gallery and time is 1 p.m. Gallery location is Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue. Thank you, all young artists, who contributed in gallery activities during 2022. See you in 2023!

January 19 Grants/Cibola County Schools Free Developmental Screening

If you suspect your child has learning concerns or issues, including giftedness, and you would like to have your child’s skills screened, please call Desiraye Lopez 285-2643 to make an appointment. The screenings will be conducted on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at the Special Education Complex 402 North 2nd Street from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Due to COVID 19, no walk-ins at this time, please make an appointment. All screenings are free. Parents will be informed of screening results at the conclusion of the screening session. The screening will be conducted by a team of G/CCS employees. Ages 3-21 years old can participate.

The Northwest New Mexico Solid Waste Authority accepts Number 1 and 2 plastic, paper, and cardboard. Locations include Smith’s grocery, Roosevelt Avenue, Grants; John Brooks Supermarket, Highway 66, Milan; and Milan Transfer Station, 2305 W. Highway 66, Milan.
