August The Regular Grants City Council Meeting for the month of August has been CANCELLED. Instead, a special meeting will be held on August 23.

August 16 Classes at St. Teresa Inquiry Class for the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults and children at St. Teresa Catholic Church Wednesday August 16 at 7 p.m. This class is for anyone interested in learning more about Jesus and how to receive forgiveness and Grace through the Sacramental life of His Church.

August 17 Milan Board of Trustees Meeting The Village of Milan Board of Trustees will meet August 17 at 5 p.m. in the Village of Milan Government Hall, 609 W. Highway 66, Milan, NM.

August 18 Free Classical Music

Let classical music ease you into your weekend. This Friday at 4 p.m., you can hear the New York Philharmonic Orchestra play sections that feature various sections: Percussion, strings, and woodwinds. Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave is the place.

Music artists are featured this Sunday, the 19th at the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave. Local talent will play or sing beginning at 1 p.m. Join music-lovers and jam.

August 21 Library Board Meeting The Grants Library board will meet on August 21 at 3:30 p.m. at the Grants Public Library, 1101 N. First Street in Grants, New Mexico. Agendas will be available August 21 at Grants City Hall, 600 W. Santa Fe Ave.

August 23 Special Grants City Council Meeting A special meeting of the Grants City Council is going to occur on August 23 at Grants City Hall, 600 W. Santa Fe Ave at 6 p.m. Agendas should be ready on August 18.

August 24 Grants Lodgers Tax Board Meeting The Grants Lodger’s Tax Board will meet August 24 at 3:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, 600 W. Santa Fe Ave. Agendas will be available August 21 at City Hall.

Grants Charter Advisory Committee Meeting The City Charter Advisory Committee will meet at 3 p.m., August 24 at the Grants City Hall Council Chambers, 600 W. Santa Fe Ave., Grants, NM. Agendas will be available August 21 at Grants City Gall.

Call for Written Art

August 25 is your last chane to submit artistic work about “school”. Songs, stories, poems and drawings are welcome! Students, mothers, fathers, and teachers – take part. The Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave. is the dropoff place. Have fun with this.

Pirate Homecoming Events

All events for Friday take place at Grants High School, 500 Mountain Road.

Carnival Games 4PM - 6:45 PM (in front of high school weather permitting) GHS Powderpuff – 7 p.m. at the Pirates Stadium.

Student specific activities will take place after the public carnival and Powderpuff event.

August 26 Free Movie – “A Beautiful Mind” Russell Crowe acts, directs, sings, is philanthropic, supports rugby and plays cricket. The Double Six Art Gallery will highlight - Crowe the actor - in “A Beautiful Minds”, Saturday, August 26 at 11 a.m. His performance as a brilliant mathematician earned him an Oscar nomination. Venue is on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave.

Pirate Homecoming Events

Homecoming Parade starts at 10 a.m. it will start at the intersection of First Street and Stephens Ave.

Tailgating - After parade at the Stadium Parking Lot Homecoming Game starts at 2 p.m.

August 28 Animal Services Board Meeting

The Animal Services Board will meet at 1 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, 600 W. Santa Fe Ave., Grants, NM. Agendas will be available August 25 at City Hall

August 31 Cibola Senior Citizens’ Advisory Committee The Cibola Senior Citizens’ Advisory Committee will meet at 2 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Center, 550 Jurassic Court, in Grants, NM. Agendas will be available on August 28.

September Movies in September

In support of the Rugged West celebration in September, the Double Six Art Gallery will show the movies “Little Big Man” and “Lone Star.” Dates are September 9 and 23. Time 11 a.m. Venue is the gallery on Route 66/1001 West Santa Fe Ave. The arts are for EVERYONE!

Cibola Cizen and local government offices closed to honor the Labor Day Holiday.

September 9 Free Movie “Little Big Man” Make-up artists are highly valued in movies and plays! If you attend the film, “Little Big Man” starring Dustin Hoffman as Jack Crabb, you see the artistry of going through make-up. Movie starts at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 9. The venue is the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave.

September 23 Free Movie – “Lone Star” “Lone Star” is a ’96 movie set in Rio County, TX, directed by John Sayles. A TX native, Matthew Mc-Conaughy, stars with Chris Cooper and Kris Kristofferson.
