August 23 Special Grants City Council Meeting A special meeting of the Grants City Council is going to occur on August 23 at Grants City Hall, 600 W. Santa Fe Ave at 6 p.m. Agendas should be ready on August 18.

August 24 Grants Lodgers Tax Board Meeting

The Grants Lodger’s Tax Board will meet August 24 at 3:30 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, 600 W. Santa Fe Ave. Agendas will be available August 21 at City Hall.

Cibola County Commission Meeting The Cibola County Commission will meet at 5 p.m. on August 24 at the Cibola County Government Complex at 700 E. Roosevelt Ave, Suite 50, Grants, NM.

August 25 Call for Written Art

This Friday, the 25th, is your last chance to submit written work about “school”. Songs, stories, poems and drawings are welcome from students, teachers, mothers, and fathers. Drop-off site is the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave.

Free Classical Music

This Friday, August 25, these composers will be featured in a DVD program, “What Makes Music Symphonic?”: Mozart Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Gershwin, Brahms and more. The venue is the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave. Time is 4 p.m. Let’s listen together.

Pirate Homecoming Events

All events for Friday take place at Grants High School, 500 Mountain Road.

Carnival Games 4PM - 6:45 PM (in front of high school weather permitting) GHS Powderpuff – 7 p.m. at the Pirates Stadium.

Student specific activities will take place after the public carnival and Powderpuff event.

August 26 Free Movie – “A Beautiful Mind” In the film, “A Beautiful Mind”, mathematician John Nash was afflicted by schizophrenia. Do you know what that means? Join us Saturday, August 26 at 11 a.m. in the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave. to learn together.

August 28 CG Hospital Board Meeting

The Hospital Board will meet at 5:30 p.m. on August 28. If you have any questions for the board, they must be submitted by 09:00am the day of the meeting. September Movies in September In support of the Rugged West celebration in September, the Double Six Art Gallery will show the movies “Little Big Man” and “Lone Star.” Dates are September 9 and 23. Time 11 a.m. Venue is the gallery on Route 66/1001 West Santa Fe Ave. The arts are for EVERYONE!

Cibola Citizen and local government offices closed to honor the Labor Day Holiday.

September 8 Free Film and Talk for 'Who Does She Think She Is?” There will be a screening of the documentary film, Who Does She Think She Is? and a talk about the documentary film and the issues it raises for women and women artists with Maye Torres, a Taos artist featured in the film. September 9 Free Movie “Little Big Man” The fictional character Jack Crabb, narrates the film “Little Big Man,” At age 121, he reminisces about his life as a young pioneer, an adopted American Indian and drinking pal of Wild Bill Hickok.
