    GRANTS, N.M. - Fr. Ivan Torres, assigned to the VA Hospital in Albuquerque by the Diocese of Puerto Rico, put in a request to retire after 26 years to care for his ailing mother. His request has been granted. Fr. Torres’ last Mass at theVA will be August 22nd.

    Council 3683 in Grants, NM presented him a check totaling $1,000; $500 was donated by the council and $500 from individuals from the St. Teresa of Avila parish.

    As of August 13, 2026, a new Catholic priest has not been assigned as replacement. We will send out notification so that local councils might be of assistance. District Deputy Chris Madrid has ensured support from the Knights of Columbus to the incoming priest.
