CIBOLA COUNTY, N.M. - Community leader Roger Siegmann made a historical discovery many years ago about the Grants-Cibola County Chamber of Commerce.

While on a pilgrimage March to San Rafael, Siegmann saw a shimmer on the side of the trail. Going to pick it up, the dingy and dirty plaque read “Member / Chamber of Commerce / Grants, New Mexico / 1941”

According to historical records, the chamber was named “The West Valencia County Chamber of Commerce” at the time, because Cibola did not exist.

The top left of the plaque is an impression of the Inscription Rock just beyond San Rafael, N.M., the bottom left was an impression of the Ice Caves.

The top right was an impression of Enchanted Mesa. The bottom left is an impression of a Desert Yucca plant.

Being a man who celebrates Cibola County, and wanting to preserve this piece of history, Siegmann cleaned up the plaque and mounted it on a wooden background.
