September 7 Grants Cemetery
Board Meeting The Grants Cemetery Board will meet at 4:30 p.m. at the City Hall Chamber, 600 W. Santa Fe Avenue in Grants. Agendas will be available on September 2 at Grants City Hall.
September 8 Golf Course Advisory Board Meeting The Coyote Del Malpais Golf Course Advisory Board will meet at 1 p.m. at the Coyote Del Malpais golf course, 2001 George Hanosh Boulevard.
September 10 Free Movie – Rebel Without a Cause Dennis Hopper, actor, lived in N.M. He is remembered for appearing in “Easy Rider”. He played a Villain in ’55’s “Rebel Without a Cause” with the young James Dean. Watch these young men portray teens on Saturday, September 10 at 2 p.m. at the Double Six Art Gallery, Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue. Movies are selected at Ms. Lezlie Smith’s discretion.
Camel Corps
This September 10 El Morro National Monument is bringing back to life the history of the “United States Camel Corps.” The Camel Corps Commemoration will take place at El Morro National Monument on Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11. Gates to the monument will open at 9 a.m. From 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Presentations on camels will be offered throughout the day including historical reenactments by camel expert Doug Baum and educational programs by park rangers. Visitors will also have the special opportunity to see camels up close. In honor of education, the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 will host the director of the nurses’ offices and the director of attendance on Saturday, September 17. They will explain their duties and methods used to serve the Grants Cibola County students. Let’s gather to learn and support those who are important to students. Again, that’s Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. at 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue. Remember – teaching is an art.
September 19 Grants MainStreet Board Meeting Meets at 5:30 p.m. at the GMS office located at 523 W. Santa Fe Ave. Grants, NM 87020. Meetings are open to the public. Help us change Grants for the better!
September 24 Free Movie – “Teachers Pet” Newspaper writers deal with facts and use different styles to present them. Doris Day portrays a nononsense journalism teacher in the film “Teacher’s Pet”. Her patience is tested by an experienced, self-taught editor. Movie time is Saturday, September 24 at 2 p.m. and the place is the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue. October 4 Grants/Cibola County Schools Free Developmental Screening
If you suspect your child has learning concerns or issues, including giftedness, and you would like to have your child’s skills screened, please call Desiraye Lopez 285-2643 to make an appointment. The screenings will be conducted on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at the Special Education Complex 402 North 2nd Street from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Due to COVID 19, no walkins at this time, please make an appointment. All screenings are free. Parents will be informed of screening results at the conclusion of the screening session. The screening will be conducted by a team of G/CCS employees. Ages 3-21 years old can participate.
October 6 Coffee With the Managers Come meet the City of Grants, Village of Milan, and Cibola County managers for coffee. This is a forum where community members can hear updates from the managers and get their questions answered directly from the managers. Come to the Coyote Del Malpais Golf Course at 2001 George Hanosh Boulevard in Grants, N.M. at 8 a.m.

H.G. Wells is a father of horror/science fiction. Have you read The Time Machine, The Invisible Man, The Shape of Things to Come? His work, The War of Worlds became a ’53 released film which will be shown on Saturday October 8 at 2 p.m. The venue is the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue.
