Where’s the Bench?

Body

On August 12 a concerned citizen emailed editor@ cibolacitizen.com with this published photo of a bench on the Grants Legacy Trail behind Surf Shack on Stephen Avenue in the City of Grants, asking “Where’s the Bench?”

Monsoon rains through spring and summer 2024 helped lessen the threat of drought across Cibola, and with it, increased weeds and mosquitos. The City of Grants has seen considerably more rainfall than the rest of Cibola County, recently having what officials described as a “500-year storm.”

As a result of rainfall, there has been an increase in overgrowth across the city.

The City of Grants has been working to clear weeds and natural overgrowth. Around 1:30 p.m. on August 12, city crews were seen on Roosevelt and Mesa Boulevard clearing weeds.

City Manager Andrew Valencia responded to the Cibola Citizen just before press deadline, informing the newspaper that the bench has since been cleared and there are plans to remediate the weeds on the trail.
