ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Attorney General Rauìl Torrez announced the release of the New Mexico Department of Justice’s new Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) guide, a comprehensive resource for government transparency in New Mexico. By helping shine light on the affairs of state and local government, IPRA is a fundamental tool for promoting good government in New Mexico. Historically, the IPRA guide has helped governmental agencies, municipalities, counties, and other local governments with IPRA. Because the IPRA guide had not been revised for almost ten years, AG Torrez made revamping and updating the guide a priority as part of his commitment to supporting transparent and accountable government in New Mexico.
“Despite numerous amendments to the law and important appellate decisions interpreting IPRA, the IPRA guide remained unchanged since 2015,” said AG Torrez. “Recognizing the evolving legal landscape, I made it a priority to revamp and enhance this essential resource. The updated guide incorporates the latest laws and court decisions and offers best practices for government agencies and requesters alike.”
