GRANTS, NM – Grants Police Department arrested Alexander Spencer of Grants for Drunk and Disorderly after an alleged attempted break-in. Spencer was booked into custody at the Cibola County Correctional Center.

Cibola Regional Dispatch received a call in the early morning hours of June 10 from a woman saying a man tried breaking into her home. According to the caller, the man attempted to enter her house through her bedroom window, when that was unsuccessful, he attempted the kitchen window and the front door of her apartment. The caller resided at the Cordova Court apartment complex near Mt. Taylor Elementary School in Grants.

The caller advised dispatch of her apartment location, and police were dispatched around 4:41 a.m.

As officers arrived at the Cordova Court Apartments, they went straight to where the caller advised her apartment was, but they found no apartment with that number in the specified block. So, the officers split up to find the correct apartment and were successful. As an officer encountered a man that appeared to meet the description of the alleged attempted intruder, the other officer made contact with two women in the apartment. The women confirmed the man speaking with police was the person they claim attempted to enter the apartment. A police report on the incident said the women appeared frightened, and was told to return inside.

Officers asked the man for his name, he told them “Frank Spencer.” Police and dispatch were unable to confirm the identity. While waiting for information on the identity, police asked the man if he had anything to drink that night, he told them he had two shots of an unspecified liquor. After another failure to confirm the man’s identity, police decided detain him until he could be identified.

As police moved to place handcuffs on the man, he broke free and began to run from police. Not getting far, the man tripped as he tried running and fell to the ground. Police moved in and arrested him. After a short trip to Cibola General Hospital to medically clear the man for transportation, officers were able to identify the man as Alexander Spencer, 26, of Grants.

Spencer was charged with Drunk or Disorderly.
