Grants, NM – Grants man Matthew Shawn Natan, 25, was arrested on June 5, 2024, at approximately 5:13 PM by Sergeant Anthony Kemp of the Grants Police Department on Mount Taylor Ave. The arrest was made following a report of suspicious behavior involving a male subject holding a brick, believed to be a potential threat to property.
Upon arrival at the scene, Sergeant Kemp contacted the property manager, who identified the suspect.
The suspect, later identified as Matthew Natan, was seen wearing brown pants and a black shirt. Sergeant Kemp observed Natan shoving a pipe into his front right pocket, which was identified as a pipe used to smoke fentanyl. Natan complied with Sergeant Kemp’s instructions to hand over the pipe.
During a pat-down search for weapons, Sergeant Kemp, informed by the property manager of Natan's history of pointing firearms at security cameras, found no firearms on Natan’s person. When asked for identification, Natan allegedly initially provided a false name, Marcus Natan, with a birthdate of May 4, 2002.
Due to his continued suspicious behavior and reaching into his right pocket, Natan was detained in handcuffs.
Dispatch provided a photo of the alleged Marcus Natan, which did not match the suspect. Officer Sammi Sarracino then identified the suspect as Matthew Natan. A subsequent search incident to the arrest revealed a clear vial containing a blue pill, identified as a fentanyl pill, marked with 'M' in a square on one side and '30' on the other.
Natan was charged with possession of drugs, concealing identity, and was found to have an outstanding warrant from the municipal court. The blue fentanyl pill was secured as evidence and placed in a temporary evidence locker.
Natan was transported to the Grants Police Department for processing and later transferred to Core Civic.
