GRANTS, N.M. – The Grants Public Library continued its fall programming last week with a hands-on STEM activity, Tot and Me storytime and a large batch of new books, DVDs and other materials for local readers.
Wildflower Circle visited the library Sept. 23 for a STEM day focused on straw rockets. Children built small paper rockets and used air pushed through straws and tubing to launch their paper airplanes and other paper creations.
The activity gave children a simple way to experiment with air pressure, design and movement while adjusting their rockets to see what helped them fly farther.
Tot and Me continued Sept. 24 with an alpaca theme. Families listened to Macca the Alpaca and Alpacas with Maracas before children made their own maracas.
The library also announced a sizable group of new materials added to its collection this month.
New arrivals include books for children, teens and adults, along with graphic novels, Spanish-language books, Braille materials, reference titles and DVDs.
Among the additions are children’s books on science, animals, sports and transportation; young adult titles covering history, identity and science fiction; and adult nonfiction, mystery and thriller selections.
The library also added Spanish-language titles covering subjects ranging from health and science to family stories and nonfiction, as well as several Braille books.
Movie and television additions include classic films, newer releases and full or partial television series, giving patrons more options beyond the library’s print collection.
The new materials add to a library calendar that has stayed busy through the summer and into fall with Tot and Me, Wildflower Circle, STEM activities and other programs for children and families.
