Grants, NM– The Grants Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation that occurred on Monday, May 15, 2023. The homicide victim has been identified as Matthew Vallejos (40), of Grants New Mexico.
At approximately 8:19 P.M. Grants Police Officers was dispatched to a residence located in the 800 block of Smith Street, Grants, New Mexico, for a medical request.
Officers arrived on the scene and located the victim, in a room inside the residence, lying on the floor. The victim appeared to be suffering from extensive blood loss. Officers requested Grants Fire and Rescue and Superior Ambulance. Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
New Mexico State Police Crime Scene Unit assisted Grants Police Department in processing the crime scene.
During the course of this investigation, Detectives were able to identify a person of interest and later charged Curtis Salazar (26), of Grants New Mexico with Murder in the 1st Degree.

Grants Police Department does not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community concerning this incident.
