Honoring Cibola’s Veterans

GRANTS, NM – With nearly 1,000 crosses to place at Fire and Ice Park in Grants, New Mexico, American Legion Post 80 is calling for volunteers to help them honor Cibola’s veterans. Every Memorial Day Post 80 honor the sacrifice of Cibola’s bravest by placing one cross for every veteran who has died from Cibola County at the park.

As of their last count on May 22, Post 80 has 986 crosses to place in the park. This temporary display exists to honor all of Cibola’s veterans, regardless of their branch of service or if they died in combat.

“It’s important to remember their sacrifices,” Post 80 Director Aaron Dean said, “We need all the help we can get.” Dean said Post 80 only has 10 volunteers, and that more crosses are coming in every day. “We might have more than 1,000 crosses come Wednesday,” he said.

Volunteers are asked to gather at 10 a.m. at Fire and Ice Park in the City of Grants to help place the crosses and honor the sacrifices of Cibola’s veterans.
