Upcoming – Cibola’s Art World

GRANTS, NM – You might like to mark a few of these local events on your September calendar. The “Shadows Fall” Arts show and reception, scheduled at the Cibola Arts Council, will be an opportunity to become familiar with some members of our art community. Renee Post, Matt Fletcher, and Rachel Trujillo are only three who are showing their work.

Renee Post expresses herself in paint, and also metal jewelry. Matt Fletcher is a photographer who takes his color photos using a drone. I guess that’s about as contemporary as you can get right now. Rachel Trujillo, also a painter, enjoys capturing landscapes on her canvas, with images of fresh, breezy fields of flowers. These three, and others, can be enjoyed at the Double Six Gallery and also at the September 21st Art Show.

Also planned for the “Shadows Fall” exhibit is violinist Danielle Lara providing entertainment, and the new Council Director Eric Sedillo, will speak about “the importance of the arts in the Cibola area.”

Danielle Lara is another blessed artist of more than one talent. You can join Lara on September 14th for a beginning drawing class. Future dates for continuing drawing classes will be announced. Don’t be shy, you might enjoy a new experience.

If you found the Leonard Bernstein series, “Young Peoples Concerts” enriching and educational, you might like to mark your calendar for Fridays September 13th and 27th at 4 p.m. These will be showings of “The Shubert Generation” and “Becoming Mozart” respectively. The performances are part of the PBS “Great Performances” series “Now Hear This.”

In “The Shubert Generation”, violinist Scott Yoo plays with young musicians who attempt to play the compositions of Franz Shubert. The young artists do this as a means of establishing their own careers in the competitive world of classical music.

In the “Becoming Mozart” documentary, Scott You is joined by pianist Stewart Goodyear. While Goodyear attempts to direct an orchestra while at his piano, Yoo shares stories about Mozarts great compositions.

For dramatic film buffs, “Argo” will be shown on Saturday, September 14th at 1 p.m. “Argo” stars Ben Affleck, John Goodman, and Bryan Cranston, and tells a story about CIA agent attempting to rescue six American hostages in Tehran. The agent’s disguise is a Hollywood producer scouting a location for a science fiction film. Ben Affleck is also the director of this thriller about the 1979 U.S. hostage crisis in Iran.

Also scheduled is “The Departed”, for Saturday, September 28th at 1 p.m. This 2006 Martin Scorsese film starring Leonardo Di-Caprio, Matt Damon, and Jack Nicholson is a high-action drama where the players don’t know who they are up against. As an undercover cop and a mole in the police force try to discover one another’s identity, they also infiltrate a Bostonian Irish gang.

For a more kinetic experience, Art Camp on September 21st at 2 p.m. will be hands-on learning to make a wood-sliced coaster.

Fill your calendar with wonderful experiences and stay tuned for October’s events.
